SET SCREWS: THE HEADLESS PRESSURE SCREW

Regularly used in mechanical construction, set screws (or “grub” screws) allow two parts to be bonded by compression, without tensile stress. Würth has taken care to design its own range of high quality grub screws, the main characteristics of which are as follows.

PRINCIPLE OF THE GRUB SCREW: EXERT PRESSURE TO AVOID SLIDING

Unlike the assembly screw (usually provided with a head stressed by fastening tension), the set screw ensures a solid connection between two elements by simply pressing its end, to adhere and prevent sliding. A simple example is the pencil holder on a compass. In this school tool, the pencil is held in place with a grub screw - the same one that you have to tighten manually until the pencil is locked. With this principle, the headless pressure screw has many applications. It can be used:

• for locking a steering wheel on its axis

• for installing fixing brackets

• for installing framework

• for fixing heavy metals, etc.

FLAT END, CUP END, NIPPLE END AND OTHER END SCREWS

Würth has developed a wide variety of headless screws for professionals. These differ in particular by their end, which plays a very important role in a solid connection between two mechanical parts. Among our models, you will find in particular:

• flat headless screws (PL)

• headless screws with cup end (CU)

• headless screws with stud ends (TC and TL), etc.

DISCOVER OUR HEXAGONAL SCREWS OF ALL SIZES: ULTRA-RESISTANT AND ROHS COMPLIANT

Our headless hexagonal set screws, with metric thread, are also available in several lengths, widths and internal diameters. Determine the format of the hole in your corrugated part to be able to select the correct size grub screw. Please note that most of our pressure screws are:

• composed of an extremely robust steel (A2, A2K, etc.), able to resist the shearing of the hexagon during tightening or loosening

• and conform to the European directive RoHS, which limits the use of hazardous substances.
